A 43-year-old man is being sought by Durban police after a male acquaintance was discovered dead in his hotel room.

During initial investigations it was believed that the victim was a guest who had booked into the hotel situated along Durban’s South Beach‚ but it was later discovered that the body was actually that of his 28-year-old acquaintance‚ police said.
The victim‚ identified as Jan Creamer‚ was found shot last Thursday. He had been reported as missing at the Brighton Beach police station.
“It is alleged that the guest booked into the hotel for two nights. On 30 November 2015 at about 15:00‚ he booked in and he went to his room alone. Later on the same day‚ he left the resort and returned to the resort later with his acquaintance‚ to his room.
“Around 19:30 the guest was seen leaving the resort alone and was never seen going back to his room‚ and his acquaintance was also not seen leaving the building‚” said police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane‚ who added that a ‘do not disturb’ notice had been placed on the hotel door.
“On 3 December 2015 a resort employee became suspicious that the room was still locked and the ‘do not disturb’ sign was still on the door. He opened the room only to find that there was a dead body inside. Police were called and a murder case was opened as the body had gunshot wounds.
“The man who was found dead was not booked in as a guest but was an acquaintance of the guest. Point police station with the assistance from the resort are working hard to trace the suspect‚” Maj Zwane added.
